School Programs

 

Through our partnership with the North-Okanagan Shuswap School District and funding assistance from the Habitat Conservation Trust Foundation, over 600 children spent the day outside in the 2017/2018 school year, participating in a variety of hands-on outdoor learning activities. These activities aim to connect kids deeply with the natural work by developing their sensory and observation skills, increasing their knowledge of flora and fauna, and by showcasing some of the most beautiful outdoor locations in the Shuswap.

 

We sponsor free field trips for classes to visit natural areas near their school with a trained outdoor educator, providing both the students and the teacher with rich learning opportunities.

 

SOLF also supports Professional Development for teachers by offering organizational support and instruction for outdoor hands-on activities at varied sites around the Shuswap. A highlight from 2015 was cramming 45 teachers onto a school bus and introducing them to a new CSRD park, called North Fork Wild.
